Dexiron (Iron dextran complex) is a prescription medication used to treat iron deficiency anemia in people who cannot take oral iron supplements. Iron deficiency anemia is when the body has a lower-than-normal number of red blood cells due to too little iron. It occurs when the body does not absorb enough iron from food or if there is a large or long-term blood loss. The active ingredient in Dexiron is the Iron dextran complex. Iron dextran complex belongs to a class of medications called iron supplements. It works by replenishing iron stores in the body to make more red blood cells.
