Desogen (Desogestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol) is a prescription contraception medication used to prevent pregnancy. The drug is also used to make periods more regular, decrease blood loss, treat acne, and decrease the risk of ovarian cysts. Desogen does not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, gonorrhea, and chlamydia. The active ingredient in Desogen is Desogestrel and Ethinyl Estradiol. Desogestrel belongs to a class of drugs called progestins. Ethinyl Estradiol belongs to a class of medications called synthetic estrogen. The two hormones work by stopping a woman’s egg from fully developing each month. It also causes changes to the cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.

We currently offer the brand Desogen from India (Novelon by Organon) and Canada (Marvelon by Merck) in the strength of 0.15mg/0,03mg/21-day and 0.15mg/0.03mg/28-day tablets. The generic Desogestrel/Ethinyl Estradiol is not available.
Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Desogen. The most common side effects of Desogen may include the following:
• Acne;
• Bloating;
• Breast tenderness;
• Fluid retention;
• Headache;
• Irregular periods;
• Nausea;
• Vomiting;
• Weight changes
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Blood clots;
• Blurred vision;
• Breast lump;
• Dark urine;
• Mood changes;
• Severe stomach pain;
• Unusual vaginal discharge;
• Yellowing eye/skin
These are not all of the side effects of Desogen. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not use Desogen if you are allergic to Desogestrel, Ethinyl Estradiol, or any ingredient in Desogen. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have blood clotting disorders;
• Have blood pressure;
• Have diabetes;
• Have gallbladder disease;
• Have had a heart attack;
• Have high cholesterol;
• Have irregular menstrual cycles;
• Have kidney disease;
• Have liver disease;
• Have thyroid problems
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Desogen and other medicines, including doxycycline, metformin, Lamictal, and lorazepam. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Desogen may harm an unborn baby. You may need to have a negative pregnancy test before starting treatment with this medication. Use effective birth control to prevent pregnancy while taking this medicine. If you have recently had a baby, wait at least four weeks before taking Desogen. Desogen is excreted in breast milk and may harm an infant. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Use Desogen precisely as prescribed by your doctor. You may need to use backup birth control like condoms when you first start using Desogen. You may experience breakthrough bleeding, especially during the first 3 months of using Desogen. Tell your doctor if the bleeding continues or is heavy. Desogen will not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases. Avoid smoking while using this drug, especially if you are older than 35 years of age. Store Desogen tablets at room temperature, away from moisture and heat.
