Dequadin (Dequalinium) is an over the counter lozenge medication used to treat common infections of the mouth including mouth ulcers, oral thrush, pharyngitis, and tonsillitis. Dequadin contains dequalinium chloride, which belongs to the class of organic compounds called aminoquinolines, and has both antiseptic and pain-relieving properties. Dequadin kills a wide range of bacteria, yeasts, and fungi that are associated with various mild infections of the mouth and throat. It does this by increasing cell permeability, stopping the microbe’s enzyme activity. Once microbes lose their enzymatic abilities, they quickly lose their ability to survive, as enzyme activity can affect the microbe’s osmotic system, cell metabolism, energy production, and protein synthesis, which are all necessary for the survival of the infection. Sucking a lozenge allows this medication to work directly in the area of the infection. It also lubricates and soothes the painful area, helping to relieve soreness and discomfort. If your symptoms do not improve after three days of using Dequadin or if they worsen, contact your doctor.

Canadian Pharmacy King currently offers the brand Dequadin from Canada by ANB Canada. Dequadin is available over the counter (OTC). The generic alternative, Dequalinium Chloride is currently unavailable. Dequadin oral lozenges in cherry and orange flavour are available in the strength of 0.25 mg /16 pieces and Dequadin Oral Paint is available in the dosage of 0.5 %/25 ml.
Dequadin is not expected to cause side effects. You may experience some mild soreness or discomfort of your tongue. If you experience any serious side effects or signs of an allergic reaction (hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat) seek emergency medical attention.
You should not use Dequadin if you are allergic to dequalinium, or any other ingredients in this medication. If you have diabetes, take caution with the sugar content of the lozenges. Dequadin lozenges are not expected to harm an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant to ensure there are no risks. This medication is not expected to pass into breast milk or harm a nursing baby. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding. Dequadin should not be given to children under the age of 10. Do not take more than 8 lozenges in 24 hours. Dequadin is not known to interact with any other medications. Regardless, tell your doctor about any medications, vitamins, or herbal supplements you are currently taking or have recently taken to reduce the risk of any possible interactions.
