Depo Provera injection (Medroxyprogesterone acetate) is a prescription medication used to prevent pregnancy. The drug prevents the release of an egg from an ovary (ovulation). The active ingredient in Depo Provera injection is Medroxyprogesterone acetate. Medroxyprogesterone acetate belongs to a class of medications called contraceptives. It works by changing your cervical mucus and uterine lining, making it harder for sperm to reach the uterus and harder for a fertilized egg to attach to the uterus.
