Danocrine (Danazol) is a prescription medication used to treat women with pelvic pain and infertility endometriosis and to treat breast pain, tenderness, and nodules due to a certain breast condition (fibrocystic breast disease). It also treats and prevents people with swelling in a different body part due to a congenital disease (hereditary angioedema). The active substance in Danocrine is Danazol. Danazol belongs to the class of medications called androgens. It treats endometriosis and cystic breast diseases by decreasing the hormones made by the ovaries. These hormones usually make the conditions worse. For treating angioedema, Danazol helps to increase the amount of a certain protein in your body's defence system.

Get medical help immediately if you have any signs of an allergic reaction while taking Danocrine. The most common side effects of Danocrine may include:
• Abnormal hair growth in women;
• Acne;
• Changes in voice;
• Decreased breast size;
• Skin flushing;
• Unintended weight gain

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Allergic reaction, including rash, itching, swelling of face, tongue, and throat, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing;
• Menstrual changes such as spotting or missed periods;
• Mood swings

Before taking Danazol, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or have any other allergies. Danocrine is a tablet and should be taken orally with a cup of water. You should use it according to your prescribed dose. Your dose depends on the nature of your conditions and response to treatment. Do not increase your dose without talking to your doctor. If you are using Danocrine to treat endometriosis, taking it during your menstrual period is essential. You should not get pregnant while taking Danazol medication. Discuss with your doctor if there is anything you do not understand. Inform your doctor immediately if there are no changes in your condition despite regular use of Danazol.

Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have breast cancer in women or prostate cancer in men;
• Have heart diseases such as coronary artery disease;
• Have high blood pressure (hypertension);
• Have high cholesterol in the blood;
• Have kidney problems;
• Have severe migraine headaches;
• Have undiagnosed vaginal bleeding

Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. Pregnant women should not take Danazol. Danocrine may harm the fetus. Your doctor will ensure you tested negative for pregnancy before starting you on Danocrine. It would be best to start taking this medication during your menstrual cycle to be sure you are not pregnant. Use effective birth control during your treatment. Your doctor will prescribe for you an effective barrier method of birth control (such as a condom or a diaphragm). Danazol can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Therefore, you should not breastfeed while you are using Danazol. Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Danazol and other medications, such as warfarin, and cholesterol-lowering agents, such as lovastatin and simvastatin.
