Corgard (Nadolol) is used alone or with other medications to treat high blood pressure, and to prevent chest pain. Corgard belongs to a class of medications called beta blockers. It works by blocking the action of certain natural substances such as adrenaline on the heart and blood vessels. Lowering your blood pressure will help prevent strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems. For chest pain, this medication may help to reduce the frequency of chest pain episodes and improve your ability to exercise.

Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to this medication. The common side effects of Corgard may include changes in mood, cold feeling in your hands or feet or numbness, confusion, dizziness, drowsiness, memory problems, and vision problems.

Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects:
• Bronchospasm;
• Light-headed feeling, like you might faint;
• Shortness of breath, swelling, rapid weight gain;
• Slow heartbeats

You should not use Corgard if you are allergic to this medication, or if you have asthma, a serious heart condition, severe heart failure, or if your heart cannot pump blood properly. Do not use Corgard if you have recently used large amounts of alcohol or medication that makes you sleepy. Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctor if you have ever had:
• A history of allergies;
• Congestive heart failure;
• Coronary artery disease;
• Diabetes;
• Kidney disease;
• Thyroid problems

Drinking alcohol with this medication can cause side effects. Corgard may cause blurred vision, or make you dizzy or may impair your reactions. Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medication will affect you. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Corgard and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
