Comtan (Entacapone) is used with other medications such as levodopa and carbidopa to treat 'wearing-off" symptoms of Parkinson's disease such as muscle spasms, poor muscle control, stiffness, and tremors. Entacapone belongs to a class of drugs known as COMT inhibitors. This medication works by blocking the COMT enzyme that breaks down the Levodopa in the body; hence increasing the level of Levodopa.
