Cibinqo (Abrocitinib) is a prescription medication used to treat moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults and adolescents 12 years and older who are candidates for systemic therapy. Atopic eczema is a common skin condition that causes patches of skin that are itchy, cracked, and sore caused by dry skin and the inability of the skin to retain moisture. This dryness may make the skin more likely to react to certain triggers, causing it to become itchy and sore. The active substance in Cibinqo is Abrocitinib. Abrocitinib belongs to the group of medicine called Dermatologics, Janus kinase inhibitors (JAK). It works by blocking the action of enzymes known as Janus kinases. These enzymes play an essential role in the process of inflammation that occurs in atopic dermatitis. Therefore, Abrocitinib helps to reduce the itching and inflammation of the skin that usually occurs with eczema.
