Bezalip (Bezafibrate) is a prescription medication used to treat high cholesterol and high to very high levels of fats in the blood. This drug is used with other treatments like a low-fat diet, exercise, and weight loss to lower levels of fats in the blood. The active ingredient in Bezalip is Bezafibrate. Bezafibrate belongs to a class of drugs called fibrates. It works by decreasing low-density lipoproteins (bad cholesterol) and increasing high-density lipoproteins.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while taking Bezalip. The most common side effects of Bezalip may include the following:
• Abdominal pain;
• Constipation;
• Decreased appetite;
• Diarrhea;
• Headache;
• Itching;
• Nausea;
• Rash;
• Weakness
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, including:
• Allergic reactions including hives, breathing difficulties, swelling of face, tongue, or throat;
• Decreased urine production;
• Dizziness;
• Muscle pain and weakness;
• Persistent upper abdominal pain;
• Severe skin rash;
• Symptoms of liver problems include dark urine, yellow eyes or skin, appetite loss
These are not all of the side effects of Bezafibrate. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not take Bezalip if you are allergic to Bezafibrate or any ingredient in Bezalip. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Are undergoing dialysis;
• Have a family history of muscle disease;
• Have gallbladder disease;
• Have hypothyroidism;
• Have impaired kidney function;
• Have intolerance to some sugars;
• Have liver disease;
• Have severe infection
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Bezalip and other medicines, including cholestyramine, raltegravir, rosiglitazone, statins, cyclosporine, and warfarin. Do not take alcohol when using Bezalip to prevent liver problems and increased side effects. Bezalip is not recommended for use in children. Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. You should not become pregnant while using Bezafibrate. Bezafibrate may harm the unborn baby. Use effective contraceptives when taking this drug if you can become pregnant. It is unknown if Bezalip passes into breast milk. Do not breastfeed during treatment without talking to your doctor. Bezalip may make you feel dizzy. Do not drive or operate machinery when using this drug. Use Bezalip and all medicines exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Swallow Bezalip whole with water after food. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember, except it is almost time for your next dose. Do not take a double dose to make up for a missed dose. Keep Bezafibrate out of reach and sight of children. Do not store this drug above 250C (770F).
