Betaseron (Interferon Beta-1B) is a prescription medication that is used for the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS). Interferon Beta belongs to the class of drugs called immunomodulators. Interferon is not a cure for MS but it may help to delay the onset of MS and decrease symptoms of flare-ups. This medication works by slowing down the attack of the body’s defense cells on the nerves. The recommended adult dose of interferon beta-1b is 0.25 mg (8 MIU) that is injected every other day. Your doctor may recommend a lower dose for two weeks before increasing the dose to the recommended adult dose.
