Aspercreme rub (Trolamine salicylate) is an over-the-counter medication that quickly relieves minor pain from arthritis, muscle strains, sprains, bruises, and backache. Minor pain may feel like a dull ache, a throbbing pain, a sharp stabbing, a sore sensation, burning, or stinging. The active ingredient in Aspercreme rub is Trolamine salicylate. Trolamine salicylate belongs to a class of medications called salicylates. It works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins to reduce inflammation.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Aspercreme rub. The most common side effects of Aspercreme rub may include the following:
• Blistering or peeling at the application site;
• Nausea;
• Ringing in the ears
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat

You should not use Aspercreme rub if you are allergic to Trolamine salicylate or any ingredient in Aspercreme rub. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to become pregnant;
• Have asthma;
• Have chickenpox;
• Have nasal polyps;
• Have skin irritation
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Aspercreme rub and other medicines, like other topical analgesics. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Aspercreme rub can cause problems with normal labor. Do not use this medication in pregnancy from 20 weeks until delivery. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if Trolamine salicylate passes into breast milk or if it may harm your nursing infant. Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Aspercreme rub is a cream. Use on the skin only. Please do not take it by mouth. Avoid getting this medication in your eyes or nose. If this happens, flush with plenty of water. Apply Aspercreme rub to the affected area 3 to 4 times daily. Rub in a thin amount of the medication gently. Wash your hands after applying Trolamine salicylate, except if you treat your hands. Do not apply Aspercreme rub on broken or irritated skin. Do not bandage or wrap the affected area after applying the cream. Do not apply heat to the area to reduce the risk of side effects. Aspercreme Rub is for fast pain relief. If your symptoms persist for more than 7 days, inform your doctor. Store this drug at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
