Anturane (Sulfinpyrazone) is a prescription medication used to prevent gout and gouty arthritis. Gout occurs when the uric acid level in the body gets too high and forms uric acid crystals in the joints, causing pain. The kidneys eliminate uric acid to maintain a balance in the body. Anturane only prevents gout and gouty arthritis. It will not treat a sudden or severe attack of gout. The active ingredient in Anturane is Sulfinpyrazone. Sulfinpyrazone belongs to a class of drugs called uricosurics. It works by helping the kidneys get rid of uric acid in the body, lowering uric acid levels, and preventing crystals from forming.
