Antizol (Fomepizole) is a prescription medication used to treat poisoning with ethylene glycol (antifreeze) or methanol (in fuels, solvents, and other household automotive chemicals). This drug is sometimes used with hemodialysis to rid the body of a poison. Poison deprive the body’s cells of oxygen or activates or block enzymes and receptors, causing bodywise symptoms. Changes in body temperature, consciousness, heart rate, and breathing, depending on the organs affected, are symptoms of poisoning. Antizol is an injection administered into a vein. The active ingredient in Antizol is Fomepizole. Fomepizole belongs to a class of drugs called antidotes. It works by blocking the enzyme that breaks down methanol and ethylene glycol to their toxic products.
