Antivert (Meclizine) is a prescription medication used to treat and prevent symptoms of motion sickness, including nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. The drug also treats symptoms of vertigo, including dizziness or spinning sensations caused by problems in the inner ears. The active ingredient in Antivert is Meclizine. Meclizine belongs to a class of medications called antihistamines. It works by blocking the signals to the brain that cause nausea, vomiting, and dizziness.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while taking Antivert. The most common side effects of Antivert may include the following:
• Drowsiness;
• Dry mouth;
• Headache;
• Tiredness;
• Vomiting
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects, including:
• Allergic reactions, including rash, itching, swelling of face, tongue, or throat;
• Breathing difficulties;
• Dizziness;
• Irregular heartbeat;
• Mood changes;
• Seizures;
• Tremor;
• Urinating difficulties
These are not all of the side effects of Meclizine. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not take Antivert if you are allergic to Meclizine or any ingredient in Antivert. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or plan to become pregnant;
• Have asthma;
• Have enlarged prostate;
• Have glaucoma;
• Have had liver disease;
• Have high blood pressure;
• Have hyperthyroidism;
• Have kidney disease
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Antivert and other medicines, including topical antihistamines, opioids, sleep medications, and muscle relaxants. Do not take alcohol when using Antivert to prevent increasing certain side effects. Do not drive or operate machinery when using this drug. Antivert should not be used in children younger than 12 years old. Tell your doctor immediately if you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant. It is not known if Meclizine harms the fetus. It is unknown if Antivert passes into breast milk. Do not breastfeed during treatment. Use Antivert and all medicines exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Take Antivert one hour before traveling to prevent motion sickness. You may need to take Antivert several times a day to treat vertigo. Since Meclizine is sometimes taken only when needed, you may not be on a dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose if you forget or miss a dose. In case of an overdose, talk to your doctor immediately. Keep Meclizine out of reach and sight of children. Store this drug at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and light.
