Amerge (Naratriptan) belongs to the group of drugs called triptans. Amerge is used for the treatment of migraines with or without aura. It helps to relieve headaches, pain and other symptoms of migraines including sensitivity to light/sound, nausea and vomiting. Naratriptan works by affecting serotonin that constricts blood vessels in the brain and by blocking other pain pathways in the brain. Amerge does not prevent future migraines or reduce how often you may get a migraine headache.

The common side effects of Naratriptan may include:
• Dizziness;
• Drowsiness;
• Flushing;
• Nausea;
• Pain or tightness in the jaw, neck or throat;
• Sensations of tingling, numbness, prickling, heat;
• Weakness
Many people who use this medication do not have serious side effects. Contact your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects such as:
• Blue fingers, toes and nails;
• Cold sensation of hands or feet;
• Hearing changes;
• Mental or mood changes
You should not take Amerge if you are allergic to Naratriptan or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. Amerge may raise your blood pressure. You should check your blood pressure regularly and inform your doctor if your blood pressure is high. This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol and marijuana can make you more dizzy or drowsy. You should not drive, use machinery or do anything that requires you to be alert until you are sure you can do it safely. Limit alcoholic beverages. Amerge should not be used during pregnancy unless it is clearly needed. It is unknown whether this drug passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding your baby. There may a drug interaction between Naratriptan and other medications such as buspirone, cabergoline, lithium, mirtazapine, rizatriptan, sumatriptan, zolmitriptan, venlafaxine, sertraline, fluoxetine, paroxetine, tramadol, trazodone, etc.
