Altace (Ramipril) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Relieving high blood pressure can help to prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. Ramipril is also used to improve survival after a heart attack and can be used in high risk patients (such as patients with heart disease/diabetes) to help prevent heart attacks and strokes. Altace is also known for being able to treat heart failure in patients who have had a recent heart attack. Ramipril belongs to a class of medications known as ACE inhibitors. It works by relaxing the blood vessels to allow the blood to flow more freely. Ramipril is taken with or without food usually once or twice daily.
