Advocate (Imidacloprid/Moxidectin) is a prescription medication used to prevent, treat, and control parasitic infections, including heartworm disease, hookworms, roundworms, fleas, and whipworms in cats and dogs. Advocate is also effecting in treating flea allergy dermatitis, ear mite infestations, biting lice infestations, and skin diseases caused by demodicosis and sarcoptic mange. The active ingredient in Advocate is Imidacloprid and Moxidectin. Imidacloprid works by interfering with nicotinergic acetylcholine receptors in fleas' and lice's nervous systems, resulting in their paralysis and death. Moxidectin works by interfering with neurotransmission in the parasites' nervous system, causing paralysis and death.

We currently offer the brand Advocate from Germany manufactured by Bayer in the strength of 0.4 ml/3 packs per box, 0.8 ml/3 packs per box, 1 ml/3 packs per box, 2.5 ml/3 packs per box, and 4 ml/3 packs per box topical solution. The generic Imidacloprid/Moxidectin is not available.
Get medical help immediately if your dog, cat, or ferret has any of these signs or an allergic reaction while taking Advocate. The most common side effects of Advocate may include:
• Greasy fur;
• Local reactions at the application site;
• Skin redness;
• Temporary itchiness
Contact your vet right away if your dog or cat has any of the serious side effects, including:
• Abnormal breathing;
• Lack of muscular coordination;
• Salivation after licking the application site;
• Shaking;
• Vomiting
These are not all of the side effects of Imidacloprid/Moxidectin. Always contact your veterinary doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms in your cat, dog, or ferret.
You should not use Advocate on your cat, dog, or ferret if they have hypersensitivity to Imidacloprid, Moxidectin, any ingredient in Advocate, or other veterinarian products. Before applying this medication on your pet, consult your veterinary doctor, especially if your:
• Cat or dog is very ill;
• Cat is less than 9 weeks old;
• Dog is classified as class 4 for heartworm disease;
• Dog is less than 7 weeks old;
• Dog or cat is debilitated;
• Dog or cat weighs less than 1kg;
• Pregnant cat or dog
Tell your doctor about all the medications you use for your pet, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Advocate and other drugs. Advocate is available in different strengths and sizes. Use cat products only for cats and dog products for dogs. You can use only Advocate for small cats and ferret on ferrets. Do not use Imidacloprid/Moxidectin on any other animal species. Avoid skin contact with the Advocate content, and do not stroke or groom animals till the application site is dry. Do not smoke, eat, or drink while administering Imidacloprid/Moxidectin. Wash your hands thoroughly after administering this medication. If there is accidental exposure to Advocate, rinse your eyes with water and wash your skin with soap and water. The solvent in this drug may stain finished surfaces, fabrics, leather, and plastic. Avoid contact between Advocate and such surfaces. If you miss a dose, contact your veterinarian for heartworm testing before applying the next dose. Keep Advocate and other medications out of sight and reach of children. Store Imidacloprid/Moxidectin between 40C and 250C (390F – 770F).
