Acidophilus is also used to treat diarrhea and vaginal and urinary tract infections. The active ingredient in Acidophilus is Lactobacillus acidophilus. Lactobacillus acidophilus belongs to a class of drugs called probiotics. It works by maintaining a healthy balance of good bacteria in the body. Lactobacillus acidophilus is good bacteria found in the human gut, mouth, and vagina. It is also present in certain foods. This drug can help break down food, absorb nutrients and fight off harmful organisms that may cause diseases.
