Accupril is in a group of drugs called ACE Inhibitors. Accupril (Quinapril) is used to treat high blood pressure and help treat heart failure. It works by widening the blood vessels in the body and lowering blood pressure. The usual recommended start doses are 5 mg and 10 mg.

Stop taking Accupril and call your doctor at once if you have one of these serious side effects:

• a light-headed feeling (as though you might pass out);
• Fast or pounding heartbeats;
• Little or no urination;
• Pain or burning urination;
• Jaundice (yellowing of the eyes and skin);
• Numbness, tingling, or burning pain in your hands or feet;
• Fever, chills, cold or flu symptoms;
• High potassium levels in the blood;
• Low sodium levels in the blood

Less serious side effects of Quinapril may include headache, cough, dizziness, and tiredness.

Accupril is usually taken once or twice a day. You should not use it if you have ever had angioedema. Do not take Accupril within 36 hours (before or after) taking medicines with sacubitril. If you have diabetes, you should not take Accupril along with any medication containing aliskiren. Do not drink alcoholic beverages while you are on this medication. Daily use of alcohol may lower your blood pressure and increase unwanted side effects of this medication. This medication must not be used during pregnancy. Quinapril may harm an unborn baby. It is important to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication. It is not known if this medication passes into breast milk, therefore, breast-feeding is not recommended while using this medication. There may be an interaction between Quinapril and other medications such as lithium, diuretics, gold injections to treat arthritis, NSAIDs, etc. If you are taking any of these medications, speak to your doctor.
