Zytiga (abiraterone) belongs to the class of medications called androgen biosynthesis inhibitors. Zytiga is used in combination with low doses of prednisone to treat metastatic prostate cancer when other treatments have failed. Abiraterone works by stopping your body from making testosterone which slows the growth and spread of prostate cancer.

Zytiga comes from Canada manufactured by Janssen-Ortho. The generic Zytiga also called Xibra comes from India manufactured by Cipla. Zytiga is available in the dosage of 250 mg and 500 mg tablets. The generic is available in the strength of 250 mg tablets only.
The common side effects may include:
• Constipation;
• Cough;
• Diarrhea;
• Difficulty sleeping;
• Heartburn;
• Hot flushes;
• Joint pain or swelling;
• Muscle pain;
• Nausea;
• Skin rash;
• Vomiting;
• Weight gain

There may be a drug interaction between Zytiga and other medications such as Aliskiren, Alpha blockers, Amiodarone, anti-cancer medications, anti-psychotics, Atomoxetine, Carbamazepine, Carvedilol, Celecoxib, Clopidogrel, Colchicine, Losartan, Warfarin, etc.
