Zovirax (Acyclovir) is an antiviral medication that is used to treat and prevent genital herpes. It may also be used to treat shingles and chickenpox. These infections are caused by viruses. Acyclovir slows the growth and spread of the herpes virus so that the body can fight off the infection. It also helps healing by stopping the virus from multiplying and spreading to the healthy cells.
