Ziac (Bisoprolol/Hydrochlorothiazide) is a prescription combination medication used to treat elevated blood pressure (hypertension). The active ingredients in Ziac are Bisoprolol and Hydrochlorothiazide. Bisoprolol belongs to the class of drugs called beta blockers, and it works by reducing heart rate and the force with which the heart contracts and lower blood pressure by dilating blood vessels. Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic that increases the amount of urine you produce. This causes your body to get rid of extra salt and water, which probably helps to relax the blood vessels so that blood can flow more easily. Lowering high blood pressure prevents stroke, sudden cardiac death, and kidney problems.
