Zerviate (Cetirizine Ophthalmic Solution 0.24%) is a prescription eye drops used to treat itching eyes associated with allergic conjunctivitis. Allergic conjunctivitis is the eye's reaction to allergens like pollen or mold spores, and some of the symptoms include redness, tearing, and itching of the eyes and the inner surface of the eyelids. The active ingredient in Zerviate is Cetirizine. Cetirizine belongs to the class of medication called antihistamines. It works by preventing histamine release from mast cells. As a result, it decreases chemotaxis and inhibits eosinophil activation. Subsequently, cetirizine stops the itching.

You should avoid the dropper tip from touching the eyelids or surrounding areas or the tip of the single-use container to avoid injury to the eye and to prevent contaminating the tip and solution. Discard the single-use container after using it in each eye. If you wear contact lenses, removing them before instilling Zerviate eye drops would be best. Soft contact lenses may absorb the preservative in Zerviate eye drops, benzalkonium chloride. Lenses may be reinserted 30 minutes following administration of Zerviate eye drops. You should know that Zerviate ophthalmic solution is not for treating contact lens-related irritation or red eyes. Discuss with your doctor if you notice abnormal eye discharge or if your condition is getting worse.
