Viviant (Bazedoxifene) is a prescription medication used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at increased risk of fractures. Postmenopausal osteoporosis is related to the decrease in estrogen production that occurs during menopause. In women, estrogen helps to slow down bone loss. So, as estrogen levels decrease, bone loss can accelerate. Bazedoxifene belongs to a class of drugs called selective estrogen receptor modulators (SERMs). It works by preventing bone loss, reducing bone turnover, and maintaining mineral bone density.
