Tenoretic (Atenolol/chlorthalidone) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure. High blood pressure can cause complications like heart attacks, strokes, and kidney problems if untreated. Tenoretic is a combination of two medications. The active ingredients in Tenoretic are Atenolol and Chlorthalidone. Atenolol/chlorthalidone is a film-coated tablet. Atenolol belongs to a class of drugs called beta blockers. It works by blocking the action of natural chemicals like epinephrine on the heart and blood vessels to lower heart rate and blood pressure. Chlorthalidone belongs to a class of drugs called diuretics. It works by causing the body to get rid of excess salt and water. It also helps to relax blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. The combination is used when a single therapy is not controlling high blood pressure.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while taking Tenoretic. The most common side effects of Tenoretic may include the following:
• Appetite loss;
• Constipation;
• Dizziness;
• Upset stomach

Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Depression;
• Restlessness;
• Signs of an allergic reaction like rash, hives, itching, breathing difficulties, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Slow heartbeat

You should not take Tenoretic if you are allergic to Atenolol, Chlorthalidone, or any ingredient in Tenoretic. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:

• Are unable to pass urine;
• Have breathing problems like asthma or COPD;
• Have diabetes;

There may be drug interactions between Tenoretic and aliskiren, amiodarone, doxazosin, ampicillin, loratadine, ramipril, chlorpromazine, etc. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Tenoretic may harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Atenolol and Chlorthalidone pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Take Tenoretic precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Keep taking this drug even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Tenoretic without talking to your doctor. Stopping this medicine suddenly may worsen your chest pain and sometimes lead to a heart attack. This drug may cause you to pass urine more often. To prevent sleep problems, try not to take the drug too close to bedtime. Tenoretic may make you dizzy. Rise slowly from a sitting or lying down position. Be careful in hot weather and drink lots of fluid to prevent fluid loss. Avoid driving or any activity that requires alertness until you know how this medicine affects you. Tenoretic may make you sunburn easily. Use sunscreen and protective clothing when in the sun. Store at room temperature, away from light, heat, and moisture.
