Tantum mouthwash (Benzydamine hydrochloride) is a prescription medication used to relieve pain and inflammation associated with a sore throat. A sore throat is a dry, scratchy, and painful feeling in the throat. It is often caused by infections or environmental factors like dry air. Tantum mouthwash also relieves pain and inflammation from mouth sores caused by radiation therapy. The active ingredient in Tantum mouthwash is Benzydamine hydrochloride. Benzydamine hydrochloride belongs to a class of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing pain and swelling.

Rinse or gargle with Tantum mouthwash for 20 to 30 seconds, then spit it out of your mouth. Repeat every 1 to 3 hours or as advised by your doctor. Do not swallow this drug. Drink a small portion of water after small intervals to avoid a dry mouth. You can also chew sugar-free gums to keep your mouth and throat moist. Avoid taking alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol can increase the side effects of Tantum mouthwash. Store Tantum mouthwash in a cool and dry place, away from sunlight.
