Stalevo (Carbidopa/levodopa/entacapone) is a prescription medication used to treat Parkinson’s disease. Parkinson’s disease is a chronic and progressive neurological disorder that occurs due to the damage or death of dopamine-producing cells in the brain. The active ingredients in Stalevo are Carbidopa, Levodopa, and Entacapone. Levodopa belongs to a class of drugs called dopamine agonists. It works by correcting the chemical imbalance in the brain to reduce the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. Carbidopa belongs to a class of drugs called decarboxylase inhibitors. It works by reducing the side effects of Levodopa. Entacapone belongs to a class of medications called COMT inhibitors. It works by blocking COMT, a certain natural substance that breaks down Levodopa in the body. This effect helps Levodopa work better and for a longer time.
