Risperdal solution (Risperidone oral solution) is a prescription medication used to treat symptoms of schizophrenia and mania. The drug is also used for the short-term treatment of long-term aggression in people with Alzheimer’s dementia who harm themselves or others. It is also used for the short-term treatment of long-term aggression in intellectually disabled children who are at least five years old and adolescents with conduct disorder. Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Risperdal solution. The most common side effects of Risperdal solution may include the following:
• Abdominal pain;
• Appetite changes;
• Dizziness;
• Headache;
• Insomnia
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Rapid heart rate;
• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as trouble breathing, hives, swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Swelling of the body, arms, or legs;
• Tremor

If taken in the last trimester, this drug may cause shaking, muscle stiffness, sleepiness, and agitation in your newborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Risperidone passes into breast milk and may cause unpleasant symptoms in your nursing infant. Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Your dosage will depend on your condition. Risperdal solution is an oral solution. The solution comes with a syringe to measure the exact amount of medicine you need. After taking your dose with the syringe, empty it into a drink of water or orange juice and drink it immediately. Do not mix the oral solution with coffee or tea. Wash the syringe and let it dry before you use it again. You can take the drug with or without food. Do not stop taking this drug without talking to your doctor. Your symptoms may return. Risperidone may make you dizzy and tired. Do not drive or use machines that require alertness until you know how the medicine affects you. Avoid taking alcohol when using Risperdal solution. Alcohol may increase the side effects of the drug. Store this drug at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not freeze. Keep out of the reach of children.
