Risperidone works by helping restore the balance of certain natural chemicals dopamine and serotonin in the brain. It helps you think clearly and live a normal life. Risperdal is also used for the short-term treatment of behavioural problems in people with severe dementia. Risperdal is taken with or without food as directed by your doctor once or twice daily.

Risperidone passes into breast milk and may affect a nursing infant. Talk to your doctor before breastfeeding a baby.
