Requip (ropinirole) belongs to the class of medications called antiparkinsonian agents. This is a prescription medication used to treat symptoms of Parkinson’s disease such as stiffness, tremors, muscle spasms, and poor muscle control. This medication is also be used to treat restless legs syndrome. Ropinirole works by helping to restore the balance of a certain natural substance (dopamine) in the brain. This medication may improve your sleep by decreasing the urge to move your legs and decreasing uncomfortable feelings in the legs. Ropinirole may be used alone or in combination with levodopa, which is also used to treat Parkinson’s disease.

You should not take Requip if you are allergic to Ropinirole or to any of the ingredients in Requip medication. Before you start taking this medication, inform your doctor about your medical condition and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. There may be an interaction between ropinirole and other medications such as alcohol, digoxin, estrogen replacement therapy, lidocaine, quinolone antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin, ofloxacin. Requip may cause you to fall asleep during normal daytime activities such as working, talking, eating or driving. You may fall asleep without any feelings of drowsiness beforehand. Do not drive or take part in other dangerous activities until you are certain that this medication will not cause drowsiness or sudden sleep. The risk increases with the use of alcohol or taking other medications that can make you drowsy. It is unknown whether Requip is harmful to an unborn baby. Talk to your doctor if you pregnant or breastfeeding a baby because Requip may reduce breast milk production.
