Razadyne ER (Galantamine) is a prescription medication that is used to treat mild to moderate dementia related to Alzheimer’s disease. This medication does not cure Alzheimer’s disease but it may improve memory, awareness and the ability to perform daily functions. Galantamine belongs to the class of drugs called cholinesterase inhibitors. It works by restoring the balance of neurotransmitters in the brain. It prevents the breakdown of a chemical called acetylcholine. People who have dementia usually have lower levels of acetylcholine which is important for the processes of memory, thinking and reasoning. The Razadyne ER capsule is usually taken once a day in the morning or as directed by your doctor. It may take at least four weeks of continued use before you can see the full benefits of this medication.
