Prozac Solution (Fluoxetine) is a medication used to treat major depression, panic attacks, obsessive compulsive disorder, bulimia, and is also used to treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors. Fluoxetine works by increasing the levels of serotonin in the brain. This medication may improve your mood, sleep appetite, and energy level and may help restore your interest in daily living. It may also decrease fear, anxiety, unwanted thoughts, and the number of panic attacks; reduce the urge to repeat tasks (OCD); lessen premenstrual symptoms and decrease binging and purging behaviors in bulimia.

The common side effects of Prozac Solution may include anxiety, dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, loss of appetite, nausea, sweating, trouble sleeping, yawning.

Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
• Changes in vision (blurred or tunnel vision, eye pain, etc.);
• Shortness of breath, fast or pounding heartbeats, fluttering in your chest;
• Low levels of sodium in the body;
• Severe nervous system reaction;
• Sudden dizziness

Do not use Prozac solution if you are allergic to Fluoxetine, or if you also take pimozide or thioridazine. You should not use Prozac if you have used an MAO inhibitor in the past 14 days.

Prior to taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history and if you have ever had:
• Bipolar disorder;
• Cirrhosis of the liver;
• Diabetes;
• Drug abuse problems or thoughts of suicide;
• Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT);
• Narrow-angle glaucoma;
• Seizures or epilepsy;
• Sexual problems

Drinking alcohol with this medication can cause side effects; which may cause blurred vision, or make you dizzy or may impair your reactions. Avoid driving or hazardous activity until you know how this medication will affect you. Tell your doctor about all other antidepressants you take especially if you take Celexa, Cymbalta, Desyrel, Effexor, Lexapro, Paxil, Luvox, Oleptro, Pexeva, Symbyax, Viibryd, or Zoloft. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products, and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Prozac Solution and other medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Older adults may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug. Prozac is not approved for use by anyone younger than 18 years old.
