Proferrin is an iron supplement used to treat iron deficiency (low levels of iron) or anemia (low red blood cells). Iron is a mineral essential to keep your body healthy by producing red blood cells. Proferrin is a natural iron supplement made from naturally sourced heme iron polypeptide (HIP), which is iron derived from bovine hemoglobin. Heme iron can be naturally found from animal sources including fish, meat, and poultry. And non-heme iron comes from plant sources including dried beans, lentils, peas, some fruits and vegetables. Proferrin can be taken with or without food. It is available as an OTC item and no prescription is required to buy Proferrin. Follow the instructions on the label.
