Procardia XL (Nifedipine XL) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure. When the force of the blood pushing against your artery walls is consistently too high, it leads to high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure can prevent complications such as heart attacks, strokes, and kidney problems. The active ingredient in Procardia XL is Nifedipine XL. Nifedipine XL belongs to a class of medications called calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels to allow easier blood circulation and reduce blood pressure.
