Prilosec OTC (Omeprazole) is an over-the-counter medication used to treat heartburn, ulcers, and other conditions caused by too much acid in the stomach. These conditions include gastrointestinal reflux disease (GERD), Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and erosive esophagitis. The proton pump are enzymes that produce stomach acid to aid food digestion. The active ingredient in Prilosec OTC is Omeprazole. Omeprazole belongs to a class of medications called proton pump inhibitors. It works by blocking the action of the proton pump to reduce stomach acid production.
