Piroxicam is used to reduce pain, swelling, and joint stiffness from arthritis. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as NSAIDs. It works by blocking your body’s production of certain natural substances that cause inflammation. Reducing these symptoms will help you go on with your normal daily activities.

Seek emergency medical help if you have any signs of an allergic reaction to Piroxicam. The common side effects may include dizziness or drowsiness, headaches, nausea, and upset stomach.

Contact your doctor immediately if you have any of these serious side effects:

• Difficult or painful swallowing;
• Mental or mood changes;
• Signs of kidney problems;
• Signs of kidney problems;

Tell your doctor if you are allergic to Piroxicam or to Aspirin or other NSAIDs prior to taking this drug. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, nonprescription, herbal products and vitamins. There may be a drug interaction between Piroxicam and other medications. Some medications that may interact with this medication include aliskiren, and ACE inhibitors, angiotensin II receptor blockers, corticosteroids, lithium, water pills, etc. This medicine may cause stomach bleeding. Daily use of alcohol and tobacco, especially when combined with this medicine, may increase your risk for stomach bleeding. This medication may make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol and marijuana can make dizzier. Do not drive or use machinery or do any activity that requires you to be alert until you are sure you can do it safely. Piroxicam may make you more sensitive to the sun. Limit your time in the sun. Avoid tanning booths and sunlamps and use sunscreen of SPF 30 or more and wear protective clothing when you are outdoors. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
