Persantine (Dipyridamole) is used to prevent blood clots after heart valve replacement surgery. This medication is combined with blood thinners to keep clots from forming. Dipyridamole belongs to a class of drugs known as platelet inhibitors. It works by stopping the platelets from clumping together and causing a blood clot. Blood clots can cause strokes, heart attacks or blocked blood vessels in the lungs.
