Pen VK (Penicillin) is a prescription medication used to treat several bacterial infections. Bacterial infections include pneumonia, throat infections, and other respiratory tract infections. This drug is also used to prevent rheumatic fever from coming back. This condition is serious and may develop after a strep throat or scarlet fever infection and may cause swelling of the heart valves. Pen VK will only treat bacterial infections. It does not work for fungal or viral infections. The active ingredient in Pen VK is Penicillin. Penicillin belongs to a class of drugs called antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of the bacteria causing the infection.

Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Pen VK. The most common side effects of Pen VK may include the following:
• Bloating;
• Diarrhea;
• Heartburn;
• Vomiting
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing;
• Hives;
• Swelling of the face, lips, or throat;
• Wheezing
These are not all of the side effects of Pen VK. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not use Pen VK if you are allergic to Penicillin or any ingredient in Pen VK. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:
• Are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed;
• Are pregnant or planning to be pregnant;
• Have asthma;
• Have ever had allergies;
• Have hay fever;
• Have kidney disease
Tell your doctor about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Pen VK and other medicines, including tobramycin, tetracycline, warfarin, methotrexate, typhoid vaccine, birth control pills, cholera vaccine, etc. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Pen VK is not expected to harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Penicillin passes into breast milk, and it may affect a nursing infant. Discuss the benefits and risks of using this medication when breastfeeding with your doctor. Use Pen VK precisely as prescribed by your doctor. Penicillin comes as a tablet. It is best to take this drug by mouth on an empty stomach, 1 hour before or 2 hours after meals. If you have an upset stomach, you may take the drug with food. Finish your medication even if you start to feel better. Stopping your drug suddenly may cause you to develop an infection that is resistant to the drug. Avoid using the drug for prolonged or repeated periods. This may result in oral thrush or a new vaginal yeast infection. Inform your doctor if you notice white patches in your mouth or a change in vaginal discharge. Store at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
