Paxil (Paroxetine) is an antidepressant that is used to treat depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder. The generic Paroxetine is also called Pexep made from Intas Pharma in India. This medication is available in the strength of 10mg, 20mg, 30mg and 40mg tablets.
Common side effects include:
• Blurred vision;
• Dizziness, drowsiness;
• Dry mouth;
• Loss of appetite;
• Nausea;
• Sweating;
• Trouble sleeping;
• Yawning
Serious side effects include:
• Changes in sexual ability;
• Decrease in sex drive;
• Easy bruising/bleeding;
• Inability to keep still;
• Irregular heartbeat;
• Numbness/tingling;
• Seizures;
• Tremor
You should not take Paxil if you are allergic to paroxetine or if you are also taking primozide or thioridazine. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical condition and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. Inform your doctor right away if you become pregnant while taking this medication. You should not start or stop taking this medication during pregnancy without your doctor’s advice. This medication should not be given to anyone younger than 18 years old without a doctor’s advice. Paxil is not approved for treating depression in children. There may be an interaction between paroxetine and other medications such as alcohol, alfuzosin, amiodarone, atomoxetine, bupropion, celecoxib, clopidogrel, desmopressin, glyburide, insulin, losartan, mirtazapine, pioglitazone, pravastatin, quinine, warfarin, etc.
