Parlodel (Bromocriptine) is a prescription medication that is used alone or combined with other medications to treat the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease such as muscle spasms, poor muscle control, stiffness and tremors. This medication is also used to treat high levels of a prolactin made by the body. It may also be used to a type of tumor which causes the high levels of prolactin. Bromocriptine belongs to a class of drugs called ergot alkaloids. It works by acting like dopamine in the brain. It also prevents the release of prolactin. Parlodel can lower the hormone levels but it does not cure the causes of the increased levels.
