Panacur (Fenbendazole) is an over-the-counter medication used to treat and control Roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxascaris leonina), Hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum, Uncinaria stenocephala), Whipworms (Trichuris vulpis), and Tapeworms (Taenia pisiformis) in dogs. The drug may also be used to treat other types of parasites, such as Giardia and lungworms. Although Panacur is not FDA-approved for use in cats, your veterinarian may prescribe it to treat certain parasites. The active ingredient in Panacur is Fenbendazole. Fenbendazole belongs to a class of drugs called benzimidazoles. It works by killing the parasites.

You should not give your dog Panacur if it is allergic to Fenbendazole or any ingredient in Panacur. Before you start administering this medication, tell your veterinarian about your pet's medical history, especially if it:
• Is lactating;
• Is pregnant or breeding;
• Is sick

Tell your veterinarian about all your medications, including prescription, OTC, herbal supplements, and vitamins. There may be drug interactions between Panacur and other medicines. Tell your veterinarian if your dog is pregnant, breeding, or lactating. This drug is considered safe for pregnant, breeding, or lactating dogs. Use this medicine exactly as your veterinarian prescribes. Panacur comes as a paste, suspension, and granules. If you administer the paste form, give it to the back of your pet's tongue after feeding. For the liquid suspension, shake it before use. The granules should also be administered orally. You will need to buy the right sachet size or a combination of sachets for your puppy size. You should weigh your dog to ensure you use the right size and number of packets. If your dog's weight is between the suggested dosing sizes, using the next higher size is safe. Give this drug to your dog by mixing the daily dose with a small amount of the usual food. Make sure your dog eats all of the medicated food. You may need to moisten dry dog food to aid in mixing. Repeat the daily dose for three days in a row. Dogs can become infected with several different kinds of tapeworms. Panacur only kills Taenia species of tapeworms. If you continue to see tapeworm segments in your dog's stool after treatment with Panacur, consult your veterinarian. Deworming schedules may vary depending on the climate where you live and your dog's activity. However, newly weaned pups (6 to 8 weeks of age) should be dewormed at 6, 8, 10, and 12 weeks of age. Treat the mother at the same time as the puppies. Dogs over six months of age should be dewormed at least twice yearly. Panacur works within a few hours. You might see dead worms passed shortly after giving the medication. Do not take this drug. It is not for use in humans. Wash your hands immediately after administering Panacur. Store this drug at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
