Onglyza (Saxagliptin) is a prescription diabetes medication that helps control blood sugar levels. This medication is used by people with type 2 diabetes. Saxagliptin works by increasing levels of incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal and it also decreases the amount of sugar your liver makes. This medication is combined with metformin or gliclazide, glyburide to improve blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes. Saxagliptin should be used as part of a diabetes management plan that includes diet and exercise.
