NeoVisc (Sodium hyaluronate) is a prescription medication used to provide safe and effective relief from the pain and disability associated with knee osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis of the knee is common and is caused when the cartilage within the knee joint begins to break down, and the underlying bone begins to change. NeoVisc is a safe and effective drug injected into the knee joints to alleviate mild to moderate osteoarthritis symptoms. NeoVisc injection consists of Sodium hyaluronate, which is naturally found in the synovial fluid and cartilage of healthy knee joints. The active ingredient in NeoVisc is Sodium hyaluronate. Sodium hyaluronate belongs to a class of drugs called viscosupplementation agents. It works by replacing the natural lubricating and shock-absorbing properties of the joint fluid. NeoVisc can be used as part of a physiotherapy treatment plan. This drug is usually given when other arthritis medications have not been effective.
