Motrin (Ibuprofen) is an over-the-counter medication that reduces fever, pain, and inflammation associated with conditions such as headache, toothache, back pain, arthritis, minor injuries, and menstrual cramps. The active ingredient in Motrin is Ibuprofen. Ibuprofen belongs to a class of drugs called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). It works by reducing the hormones that cause inflammation and pain. This effect helps to decrease swelling, pain, or fever. Motrin is for use in adults and children who are at least 12 years old.

The generic Ibuprofen is also available from Canada by a different manufacturer in the strength of 200 mg tablets, 300 mg tablets, and 400 mg tablets.
Get medical help immediately if you have any of these signs or an allergic reaction while using Motrin. The most common side effects of Motrin may include the following:
• Bleeding;
• Dizziness;
• Gas;
• Headache;
• Nausea
Contact your doctor right away if you have any of the severe side effects, including:
• Rapid weight gain;
• Ringing in the ears;
• Shortness of breath;
• Skin rash;
• Vision changes
These are not all of the side effects of Motrin. Always contact your doctor if you notice any unusual symptoms.
You should not use Motrin if you are allergic to Ibuprofen or any ingredient in Motrin. Before you start using this medication, tell your doctor about your medical history, especially if you:

There may be drug interactions between Motrin and other medicines, like cyclosporine, methotrexate, warfarin, prednisone, lithium, etc. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Motrin may harm your unborn baby. Taking an NSAID during the last 20 weeks of your pregnancy can cause complications with your pregnancy and severe heart or kidney problems in your unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. Ibuprofen passes into breast milk but is unlikely to affect a nursing infant. Use this medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes.
Motrin is a tablet. Swallow the tablets whole with water. Do not crush or chew. Take the drug by mouth with food or milk. Taking this drug with food may help reduce stomach upset. Do not lie down for at least 10 minutes after taking this drug. Avoid drinking alcohol when using this drug. Alcohol can increase your risk of stomach bleeding. This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Avoid carrying out activities that require alertness until you can safely do them. Motrin may increase your sensitivity to sunlight. Avoid direct exposure to the sun when using this drug. Use sunscreen and wear protective clothing when going out in the sun. Store this drug at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Keep out of the reach of children.
