If you just had a baby, your doctor will delay the insertion of the IUD for at least six weeks. If you had your baby through a cesarean section, your doctor will delay the insertion of the IUD by 12 weeks. Before inserting the device, your doctor will rinse your vagina, cervix, and cervical canal with an antiseptic solution. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. The IUD copper device does not pass into breast milk and should not harm a nursing infant. Mona Lisa IUD is only a form of contraception. It will not protect you or your partner against sexually transmitted diseases like HIV, chlamydia, and gonorrhea.
