Mirapex (Pramipexole) is a dopamine agonist that is used to treat signs and symptoms of Parkinson’s disease and for the treatment of Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS). This medication works by helping to restore the balance of dopamine in the brain. This medication improves your ability to move and decreases tremor, stiffness, slowed movement and unsteadiness. It may also reduce the number of episodes of not being able to move.

Common side effects include:

• Trouble sleeping;
• Unusual tiredness
Serious side effects include:
• Difficulty moving/walking;
• Fainting;
• Hallucinations;
• Irregular heartbeat;
• Memory problems;
• Muscle pain or weakness;
• Vision changes
You should not take Mirapex if you are allergic to pramipexole. Before you start using this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical conditions and about all the medications you are currently taking including OTC and herbal medications. This medication can make you dizzy or drowsy. Do not do any activity that requires you to be alert until you are sure you can perform the activity safely. It is unknown whether Mirapex will harm an unborn baby. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. It is not known if Pramipexole passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Inform your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby. There may be an interaction between Mirapex and other medications such as alcohol, amantadine, levodopa, olanzapine, quinine, risperidone, verapamil, etc.
