Metrocream (Metronidazole) is a prescription topical cream for treating bacterial skin infections, including rosacea (acne in adults). Metronidazole cream is also used in treating bacterial vaginosis and pelvic inflammatory disease. Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that causes reddened skin and a rash, usually on the nose and cheeks. Rosacea may also affect the eyes, which is commoner among women and light-skinned people. The active ingredient in Metrocream is Metronidazole. Metronidazole belongs to the group of medications called topical antibiotics. It kills and suppresses the bacteria and reduces inflammation associated with rosacea. Metronidazole cream may be used for other conditions not mentioned in this guide.
