Merrem (Meropenem) is a prescription medication that is used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections such as appendicitis and peritonitis, bacterial meningitis and skin infections. This medication is known as a carbapenem-type antibiotic. This medication works by stopping the growth of bacteria. Merrem is given intravenously as directed by your doctor, usually every 8 hours.

Our Canadian Pharmacy currently has the brand Merrem from Canada manufactured by AstraZeneca. There is no generic available for this medication. Merrem is available in the strength of 1 gm/1 vial of powder for solution.

The common side effects may include constipation, diarrhea, nausea, pain, redness, soreness at the injection site, swelling and vomiting.

Inform your doctor right away if you have any of the serious side effects such as:

• Easy bruising or bleeding;
• Hearing changes;
• Mental or mood disorders;
• Numb or tingling skin;
• Seizures
• Swelling ankles or feet;
• Unusual tiredness;
• Unusual weakness
• Unusual weight gain

You should not use Merrem if you are allergic to Meropenem or if you have any other allergies. Before you start taking this medication, talk to your doctor about your medical history and about all the medications you take including OTC and herbal medications. This medication may cause headaches, numb or tingling or seizures. You should not drive, use machinery or do any activity that requires you to be alert. Meropenem may cause live bacterial vaccines to not work as well. Do not have any immunizations or vaccinations while using this medication. Inform your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. This medication passes into breast milk. Talk to your doctor before breast-feeding.
