Kleanlyte Kit (Polyethylene glycol) is an over-the-counter medication used to clear the bowel during some endoscopy procedures, including colonoscopy, barium enema, or surgical procedures that require a clean colon. Using Kleanlyte oral solution before a colonoscopy gives the doctor a clear view of the intestinal lumen during the procedure. The active ingredients in Kleanlyte oral solution are polyethylene glycol and electrolytes (sodium, potassium, and bicarbonate). Kleanlyte belongs to the class of medication called osmotic laxatives. It draws a large amount of water into the colon and increases bowel movement. It works by emptying the bowel of faeces and other waste materials that may obscure the doctor's view during the endoscopy procedure.
