Kapvay (Clonidine HCl) is primarily used to treat hypertension. It may also reduce ADHD in children ages 6 to 12, adolescents, and adults. This medication may be used alone or combined with other medications as part of a total treatment plan. Clonidine HCl Extended-Release belongs to the class of drugs called Alpha2Agonists, Central-Acting, ADHD Agents. This medication works by increasing attention and decreasing restlessness in children and adults who are overactive, impulsive and are easily distracted.

The brand Kapvay comes from Canada manufactured by Concordia Pharmaceuticals in the strength of 0.1 mg tablets. The generic version is not available.
The common side effects of Kapvay may include:
• Constipation;
• Dizziness or drowsiness;
• Dry mouth;
• Feeling tired or irritable;
• Loss of appetite;
• Nightmares;
• Sleep problems
If any of the effects listed above are severe or persistent, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
In addition, seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following effects:
• A very slow heart rate;
• Feeling light-headed, like you might faint;
• Irregular heartbeats;
• Shortness of breath, severe chest pain
If you experience serious allergic reactions like rash, itching or swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing seek medical attention right away.
Do not take Kapvay if you are allergic to Clonidine. Before you start taking this medication, tell your doctors about your medical history and if you have or ever had:
• A heart attack or stroke;
• A heart rhythm disorder, slow heartbeats;
• A history of fainting spells;
• An allergic reaction to a Clonidine transdermal skin patch (Catapres TTS);
• Heart disease or severe coronary artery disease;
• High or low blood pressure;
• Kidney disease;
• Tumor of the adrenal gland
Avoid alcohol; it may increase certain side effects of this medication. Kapvay may cause dizziness or drowsiness, do not drive or do any hazardous activity until you know how this medication will affect you. Avoid becoming overheated or dehydrated during exercise and in hot weather. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take including prescription, OTC, vitamins, and herbal supplements. There may be a drug interaction between Clonidine and other medications. Clonidine may affect fertility in men or women. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you are pregnant, your name may be listed on a pregnancy registry to track the effects of this medication on the baby. Kapvay should not be taken by anyone younger than 6 years old.
